Festool Sander Guide

Sanding expertise for more than 50 years
Sanding is probably one of the least enjoyable and most time-consuming jobs in the shop. For more than 50 years, Festool has been known for its expertise in sanding, delivering tools that make the task of sanding faster and more enjoyable.

Superior dust extraction, very low vibration, long service life, and a perfect finish are the results of a sanding system where all the parts are made to work together. Festool offers a sander for every application and a full range of abrasives to meet the needs of the professional user in every step of the finishing process.

Jetstream™ technology
Festool sanders and abrasives work with the patented Jetstream™ design: an additional hole in the center and two air ducts prevent a vacuum from forming during dust extraction. This results in less accumulation, reduced heat and less clogging.

Cash savings are fact, not fiction! With the Jetstream™ design, you use abrasives more efficiently and extend their useful life by up to 30%!

The new Rotex® RO 150 FEQ
Never before has such a powerful sanding been so refined. The Rotex® RO 150 FEQ changes effortlessly from coarse sanding, to fine sanding, to polishing. Changing sanding pads is just as simple, and requires no extra tools. 720 Watts of power means the Rotex® RO 150 FEQ can take on any job. Yet its 5 lbs. frame, minimal vibration and superior ergonomic design make it nearly effortless to work with. The gear box is completely enclosed and impervious to dust, making the Rotex® RO 150 FEQ last extremely long, even in the toughest applications.

The Rotex® RO 125 FEQ
This sander gives you everything Rotex® has to offer in a smaller, lighter package. The new Rotex® RO 125 FEQ puts dual-mode, triple-function performance into a comfortable, 4.4 lbs. package. This 5” sander does it all – coarse sanding, fine sanding and polishing. It's perfect for woodworkers, painters, solid surface fabricators, and anyone who needs to sand in a variety of places and positions. With near-total dust extraction, exceptional ergonomics, and many advanced features, this is a small sander that does a very big job.

Festool SanderThe RAS 115.04 E
The RAS 115.04 E is a light, easily-managed tool, specially designed for stripping layers of coatings and rough shaping. Gear reduction gives it high torque and a speed range of 1,500 – 4,000 RPM, ideal for fast, controlled stock removal. The lower speed prevents abrasives discs from overheating and clogging, an important consideration for stripping old varnishes and paint layers.

The Deltex DX 93 E
Festool gear-driven sanders are designed for strong abrasion through reduction gearing. This means that they are ideal for stripping off old, thick and stubborn coatings. A versatile sander for difficult and hard-to-reach spots, the Deltex DX 93 E provides excellent sanding results in even the tightest of corners. The triangular sanding pad means you can power sand using the full area of the pad, saving labor and eliminating time-consuming manual sanding in problem areas. Excellent finish sander for tight spots using finer grits.

The DTS 400 EQ
A great all-round sander, the DTS 400 is ideal for working on vertical and overhead surfaces because of its compact design and weight of only 2.4 lbs. The electronics improve working results and the vibration stop makes your work less tiring.

The RTS 400 EQ
A sander well suited for a wide range of applications, the RTS 400 EQ is ideal for working on vertical and overhead surfaces because of its compact design and weight of only 2.4 lbs. The electronics improve working results and Vibration Stop balancing reduces the opportunity for fatigue during prolonged use.

The RS 2 E
The large 4-1/2” x 9” sanding surface makes this RS 2 E an efficient choice for fine sanding large surfaces. Typical applications include intermediate sanding of varnished doors, leveling large surfaces, and sanding narrow pieces without rounding over edges. An additional ergonomic handgrip permits guidance with little force to avoid fatigue during long sessions.

Festool Sander LS 130 EQThe Duplex LS 130 EQ
Festool's Duplex LS 130 EQ makes detail sanding faster, easier and cleaner. The Duplex linear sander is designed for professional use with the quality and reliability you expect from Festool. Rebates, edges and profiles can only be sanded by a linear motion – back and forth, not side to side, not circular or oscillating. Until now, the only truly professional portable sander that could do that was your hand. But the linear sander powers through detail sanding up to three times faster. Common as these jobs are, this is major savings in time and effort.

The ETS 150/3 EQ and ETS 150/5 EQ
Festool presents two top-of-the-class, lightweight eccentric sanders in the ETS series. The ETS 150/3 EQ is a favorite for fine sanding and extra-fine sanding, producing an excellent surface finish with a short 1/8” sanding stroke. The ETS 150/5 EQ, with a 3/16” sanding stroke, is a favorite for more aggressive sanding or intermediate varnish sanding. Its maneuverability is a product of superior ergonomics and low weight. The balance of each tool is calibrated to its stroke, delivering smooth, low vibration operation.

The ETS 125 EQ
The ergonomic ETS 125 EQ has a 5/64” sanding stroke and is the ideal one-handed machine for maximum surface quality when finishing or pre-sanding. Weighing only 2.4 lbs., it is perfect for vertical surfaces and overhead work. Technical features such as the sanding pad brake and Vibration Stop balancing put the ETS 125 EQ in a category of its own.

Best results with the right pressure
A durable and reliable machine is the best solution for tough workshop applications and continuous industrial use; particularly when this machine is integrated into a large plant system.

Who should use air tools?
If you sand three or more hours a day, every day, the economics of air tools make them the wise choice for commercial applications.

  • Last up to give times longer than electrical power tools
  • Much lighter and easier to use for extended periods
  • Don't heat up in operation
  • Notably quiet
  • Reduced risk of electric sparks at the work-piece
  • Because air tools need a compressed-air supply, they are tied to a shop (less theft)

The tools
So, what makes Festool air tools stand out from the rest? In addition to these inherent advantages, Festool air tools offer other important benefits:

  • Unique 3-in-1 air hose, combining air supply, tool exhaust and dust extraction in a single conduit
  • Jetstream sanding pad design for longer abrasive life and more efficient sanding – saves time, and saves money on abrasives
  • Superior ergonomics means they are light enough for a single-handed use, yet a comfortable fit for a two-handed job
  • Minimum vibration for easier use over prolonged periods
  • Sanders have a pad brake to prevent oversanding and marring when the tool is set down
  • Exhaust air goes out the 3-in-1 hose and away from you – no freezing tools, and no annoying wind in the work area
  • Long life
  • Low maintenance
  • Low noise at about 73 dB(A) at idle

The dust extractor
Dust extraction is essential for good working results and for operator health and safety. All of Festool's air sanders incorporate dust extraction as a central design feature, and work with a central dust extraction system with standard 2” fittings, as well as with CT mobile dust extractors. For your extra protection, HEPA filters are now standard.

Festool's CT 33 E Mobile Dust Extractor works with both air tools and electrical tools, and offers a host of other operational benefits.

The hose
At the heart of Fetool's air tool system is the unique IAS 2 3-in-1 hose, which combines air supply, air tool exhaust and dust extraction in a single conduit. That means no tangles, no twisted hoses and less to trip over. And since there is only one hose attached to the tool, there is less hose drag and less effort required for movement. A rotator connection at the tool end keeps the hose from twisting and kinking, and a bayonet coupling makes tool connects and disconnects a breeze – easily switch from a coarse sander to a finishing sander.
